There are many reasons to volunteer. You may want to develop knowledge about the community and special events. You might volunteer to meet new friends, discover new interests, or make a difference. During our screening process will explore your interests, talents and the amount of time you wish to volunteer. Our goal is to create a rewarding experience for all involved.

Volunteer Opportunities


Special Events

If you are looking for a short-term or one-time opportunity, consider volunteering at one of our special events. Annual events such as Hometown Holiday Parade, Easter Eggstravaganza, Best of Southwest Juneteenth Celebration, and more. Special event opportunities are available for both groups and individuals. 

Youth Coaches

Coaches are need for all youth sports programs in DeSoto. If you know the rules of the game and love kids, this may be your opportunity to teach good sportsmanship and teamwork to kids in the community. 

Special Projects

If you have a special skill that could benefit the Recreation Center or Senior Center, please let us know. You could teach a class to children, seniors, or adults and more. 

Adopt-a-Park / Trail 

The Adopt-A-Park/Trail Program (APAT) is volunteer program that gives the community the opportunity to work with DeSoto Parks and Recreation (DPR) to keep its parks and trails clean and attractive. The adopter will be responsible for maintaining the parks / trails by picking up litter, maintaining flower beds, painting, spreading playground mulch including safety surfacing and other manual labor.
 Who can participate?
Athletics Organizations Business or Other Community Organizations  Civic Groups Faith-Based  Organizations
Individuals
or Families    Neighborhood Associations   Schools (groups and teams)                                                                                                   Will I need to provide my own equipment? 
DRP will provide trash and recycling bags, recycling information, safety guidelines, litter grabbers, safety vests, and work gloves.
 

Annual Clean-up Week

This program is held the first weekend in March and September each year in conjunction with Keep Texas Beautiful and Keep Texas Beautiful "Great American Clean Up".
