May 4, 2019 General Election and Special Election

The City of DeSoto will hold a General and Special Election to Fill an Unexpired Term on Saturday, May 4, 2019.

Our City Charter states: Members of the City Council shall run for office by place, elected at large by the qualified voters of the entire City, and shall, except the Mayor, reside in correspondingly-numbered geographical districts of the City established by ordinance based on equality of population.

The following Places are eligible for General Election: Place 1 (Mayor), Place 3, and Place 5. The following Place is eligible for the Special Election to Fill an Unexpired Term: Place 4.

Below are important dates to remember.

  • January 4, 2019 - Candidate Packets are available. To request, please submit your name, address, email address, and telephone number.  You can request the Candidate Packet by email or in person.  Please email Kisha Morris-Perkins at or stop by the City Secretary's Office during normal business hours. Note: The Candidate Packet is a very large document; therefore, in the spirit of conservation, we will only print copies upon request.  Please contact the City Secretary's Office at 972-230-9646 prior to your arrival.
  • January 16, 2019 - First day to file an application for a place on the ballot. (9am-12 noon, 1pm-4pm)
  • February 15, 2019 - Last day to file an application for a place on the ballot. (9am-12noon, 1pm-5pm)
