Employment

A valued resource
People are the police department's most valuable resource. The quality of policing depends on the quality of the people doing the policing, and the success of the organization depends on how well these people are recruited, selected, trained, evaluated, promoted and supported.

A qualified force
The DeSoto Police Department recognizes that the basic goal of recruitment is to attract qualified individuals to serve as police officers. Our recruitment team goes to job fairs and colleges and works closely with our armed services to attract interested applicants.

"Qualified" denotes individuals who posses, or can acquire through entry level training, the required skills, knowledge, abilities and job behaviors to perform the tasks and duties of a police officer.

A civil service department
The DeSoto Police Department is a civil service department and tests twice each year. Notify me when the next test date comes up.

Equal opportunity employer
The City of DeSoto is committed to equal opportunity in any recruitment, examination, appointment, training, promotion, retention, discipline, and any other aspect of personnel administration without regard to age, race, sex, national origin, religion, disability or any non-job related factor.
